Sign up for Office Hours with a member of our team at The House to get feedback on your startup, technical mentorship, or get feedback on your application to the accelerator. More info below.
Note that all Office Hours will be in person at The House’s office in Berkeley. Those that are accepted for OHs will be notified of the exact time in the final notification. To be eligible for these office hours, your startup/project must have at least 1 UC Berkeley affiliated Founder.
Currently available office hours are listed below.
Open Office Hour Sessions
Friday March 16th
This office hour is meant for start-ups (or start-ups in the making) who want to discuss their AI strategy as well as concrete challenges when building AI systems and getting them working and is led by AI@The House Co-Founder and Faculty Partner Pieter Abbeel and his Embodied Intelligence Co-Founders Peter Chen and Rocky Duan.
Abbeel, Chen and Duan are three of the world’s leading AI experts in deep learning, reinforcement learning, unsupervised learning, robotics. Their professional experience includes founding several companies (Gradescope, Embodied Intelligence), research at the Berkeley AI Research (BAIR) lab, research at OpenAI, and advising a wide range of AI start-ups. It also includes building frameworks and infrastructure for AI development, including rllab (widely used deep RL framework) and OpenAI’s compute infrastructure.
WHEN: Morning of Friday March 16th
WHERE: The House (2560 Bancroft Way Berkeley, CA)
Office hours will be 20 minutes each. Please apply by Friday March 9th @ 11:59pm to be considered by filling out the short form below. If you are selected for the office hours, you will be notified by Monday March 12th with a specific time and other final details.
Pieter Abbeel (Professor at UC Berkeley [2008- ], Co-Founder Embodied Intelligence [2017- ], Co-Founder Gradescope [2014- ], Research Scientist at OpenAI [2016-2017]) works in machine learning and robotics, in particular his research focuses on making robots learn from people (apprenticeship learning), how to make robots learn through their own trial and error (reinforcement learning), and how to speed up skill acquisition through learning-to-learn (meta-learning). His robots have learned advanced helicopter aerobatics, knot-tying, basic assembly, organizing laundry, locomotion, and vision-based robotic manipulation. He has won numerous awards, including best paper awards at ICML, NIPS and ICRA, early career awards from NSF, Darpa, ONR, AFOSR, Sloan, TR35, IEEE, and the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). Pieter is also an advisor to several AI and robotics start-ups, and is a Co-Founder of AI@The House and a Faculty Partner at The House Fund.
Peter Chen (Co-Founder Embodied Intelligence [2017- ], Research Scientist at OpenAI [2016-2017]) is an AI researcher with a focus on Reinforcement Learning and Generative Models. He has organized the NIPS 2016 Deep Reinforcement Learning Workshop and the 2017 Deep Reinforcement Learning Bootcamp at Berkeley. He has lectured on the topic of Deep Learning/AI during 2017 Peking University Summer School on Data Science. Peter has also advised various companies’ on their AI projects.
Yan (Rocky) Duan (Co-Founder Embodied Intelligence [2017- current], Research Scientist at OpenAI [2016-2017]) is an AI researcher focused on Reinforcement Learning and Robotics. He obtained his PhD at Berkeley, where he lead the development of the first widely used deep reinforcement learning library, rllab. He has also published leading research papers in deep meta learning, and helped co-organize the NIPS 2017 Deep RL Workshop and Deep RL Bootcamp at Berkeley. Prior to obtaining his PhD, he has co-founded Sellegit, an eCommerce startup.
